OUTDATED: NEW POST ON EXECUTA TO COME SOON
Name: Executa (Derived from the French word “Executant” meaning performers)
Location: The territory previously belonging to the provinces of Ontario and Quebec and parts of New Brunswick
Notable City(s):
Lux City - the capital and central hub of entertainment with plenty of live shows and theatres. It also has many studios where the newest movies are recorded.
Villette - A derivative of ‘little city’ in French. A large population of francophones inhabit this area and it it’s known for it’s foot in fashion and art + design.
History:
Post-Aether war - After the fall of Canada and the subsequent rise of the Ka’Rlfn many groups of survivors built small but well-armoured communities around the broken remnants of the capital. Many of the people in these communities refused to join the Ka’Rlfn, some believing their ways were too primitive, others simply because they wished to keep their homes and way of life. It wasn’t too difficult to survive with the readily available game in nearby forests and abundant water supplies of the area. Soon they were able to stabilize themselves enough to focus on rebuilding a nation and an economy.
The Ka’Rlfn to the Rescue - As the community grew and the radiation from the bombs began to spread, game became harder and harder to find. For a long time a famine overtook the land and many were only sustained with the crops that were being produced. Many carnivores were doing poorly due to this fact and would either join the Ka’Rlfn out of desperation or began to die off. The economy was beginning to cave in when the Ka’Rlfn came with trading offers. Since the territory of Executa was rich with rare Earth minerals they would give gold, copper, zinc, cobalt and silver (amongst other things) in exchange for food. As the country stabilized itself once more the residents would begin to ask the Ka’Rlfn for additional technology to help build up their cities.
Special thanks to our sponsors - As the cities grew rapidly so too did the economy. Seeing an opportunity many investors in the Corridor began to put money into the flourishing cities. They brought many of their businesses in, and as entertainment began to take a stronger foothold around the country they poured a lot of investment into that to use as advertisement while also taking advantage of the large amount of income it was bringing in.
Rise of the Gangs - The thriving market didn’t benefit everyone however, and many people on the fringes of the city were forced to find other ways to make money. At first the gangs were tightly woven communities willing to use less-than-legal measures to make money and keep themselves alive. Soon however with the invention of new alcohols and drugs bringing in more cash they began to make more money and become more influential. The gangs grew in size rapidly due to the high population of poorer citizens and eventually became so big that they started gushing out from the city’s underground and invading the richer parts of town. This hurt tourism and entertainment as many feared for their safety, and the generally young police force couldn’t do much to stop them. In the end the government struck a deal with the gangs, they would pass legislation to make it easier for them to make money and they would keep out of certain parts of the city. Thusly the city became what is it today, with the government being influenced above ground by companies and underground by gangs.
Culture: Executa’s culture is heavily built on the entertainment industry in all it’s forms; movies, plays, music, artwork, casinos and sex. The people are interested in anything and everything that looks pretty, including themselves. There’s a massive emphasis on looks and the latest fashions, to the point where there’s not a single street without a store which sells aesthetic enhancements, make up or plastic surgeries. The entertainment industry is a strong place to work in, but it’s also very picky with its talent. If you cannot perform live or otherwise you may end up with a “lower class” job such as being a stripper/hooker.
Architecture: Most of the buildings are tall skyscrapers which house many of the inhabitants and beauty businesses. The buildings are built to be beautiful and intricate both outside and inside. Even buildings like hospitals get an interesting spin to them. Most hotel rooms are well equipped with the latest comfort technology to make every experience as pleasurable as possible.
The city looks quite different in the poorer side of town however, the buildings are much smaller and more rectangular and dull. The rent is cheap, but the actual price to live is very high as the people are basically taxed by the gangs so they won’t be killed on the spot. Most people can’t afford to move out due to this taxation and they must either continue payments or have their families be relieved by becoming a part of the gang themselves.
Government: The government is built upon the husk of the previous Canadian government with elected officials and councilmen to make decisions for the people, or at least that is how it appears on the outside. The truth is the government is constantly influenced by both companies and especially the underground Gangs. Both mostly bribe the officials with money, however the use of assassinations and threats are used exclusively by the gangs. The government officials need to keep the companies happy to keep the economy on the up and up, and they need to keep the gangs happy for the safety of the tourists. This often leads to legislation which favours them such as tax cuts on companies and lighter restrictions along with legalizing prostitution and other shady activities for the gangs.
Majority Pop’n: Herbivores of all types, english speakers
Minority Pop’n: Carnivores (though their population is slowly recovering), Humans, french speakers
Technology: Most of their tech involves leisure, so there have been many advances in hologram projectors, home automation, home entertainment and handheld devices. Their cars and trains are some of the most efficient in the world because of the need to move tourists in bulk from place to place quickly. The extensive use of aesthetic surgery has lead to great leaps in medical technology so the healthcare (if you can afford it) is quite excellent.
Biases: There is some hostility between the Herbivores and Carnivores due to many of the gang members and leaders being carnivores themselves. This has lead to mistrust of carnivores, though it’s kept hidden most times.
Religion: Since the goal of many companies is to make people have as little self-esteem as possible so they’ll buy more beauty products, practicing religion is portrayed as being very taboo and generally frowned upon. One of the biggest reasons it isn’t outlawed is because powerful gang members are quite religious ((Italian Mafia anyone?))
Military: Executa has generally had no problems with any other nation so their military is barebones and fairly basic for defense against the occasional act of terrorism. Despite this however they are always ready to commission the Ka’Rlfn to protect them against strong invading forces.
Foreign Relations:
Ka’Rlfn - strong trading partner, Allies
The Corridor - strong trading partner, allies
New London - trading partner, neutral
West Frankfurtian Alliance - neutral
Stromschnellen (WKGP) - neutral but cautious
((TBA as I speak with creators of other countries))
