(Image credit: Vetements Clothing Paris www.mytheresa.com/euro_en/designers/vetements.html?gclid=CJ6cpe3fwdMCFQ8TGwod71oEDg&loc=f and http://www.americanleatherjacket.com) Ballistic Leather, or SkinShield as the marketing department called it, was a once revolutionary artificial material, now reduced to an obsolete but effective-for-its threats form of protective gear. Nowadays it primarily finds use by third world paramilitaries, street gangs and other impoverished world citizens looking for something that can turn a bullet or a blade reliably yet also be fashionable and affordable. Durability-wise, it is comparable to a LVL 4 ballistic plate from the early 21st century, but far lighter, more covering and even self-repairing. Designs are highly varied, ranging from stylish coats for wary walks in the rain to puncture-proof underwear that keeps your melons and/or family jewels intact from any stray bullets/dogs.

So just how much damage can it take from like knives and blades? Is it scratch resistant? How about washing it? What is the limits of its self repairing and how does self repairing work? Can it be tailored?

So just how much damage can it take from like knives and blades? Is it scratch resistant? How about washing it? What is the limits of its self repairing and how does self repairing work? Can it be tailored? Hmmm... With blades, it hardens much like it would with bullets, so quite well unless its high tech blades like a plasma sword, which go right through. If it can turn blades, scratches are likely to be turned aswell. Self-repairing works by having the fabric grow back, the nanobots that make up the outfit noticing that the shape is not according to programming and proceed to self-replicate accordingly. The limit is if you say, decide to directly absorb a tank shell or white phospourous bomb for some reason, as the former would scatter the machines too much for repairs to be viable, while the latter would cook them along with the wearer. So heat intensive weapons are its weakness. Yes it can be tailored, however it requires a skilled technician to do so. The fact that Ofisa managed to get what amounts to a full suit tailored to her size with a police badge sewn in, in Favella City of all places, is a show of her years of hard work in the gang she is in.
