When I started this I kinda wanted it to be obtuse as to what year it was specifically. That way people can have some fun with the timeline and not be bothered. So the question of what year it might have happened I will just ignore respectfully
Aether batteries/filters and alternative fuel sources would probably be the main things in highly populated areas. Plus with Aether generators being able to run pretty well so long as they are stationary I can imagine those powering cities pretty well and pretty universally (anyone reading this, please disregard that if you had plans for your cities <3). But I had never considered cars. I mean, it would make sense to have none in Cyden, right? I mean, they would NOT show restraint in preserving fossil fuels at all. But then what about the people that want to bring their favorite cars and vehicles into the Cyden universe. I don't want to exclude them entirely just because. That is something pretty interesting to think about.
Two options I can think of.
1: Fossil fuels are brought in from other planets. We already have the precedent of interplanetary travel. And the main goal of certain groups is to just mine and collect resources from other planets. It doesn't seem unreasonable to say that they are just delivered here. This would also let you kinda choose where its delivered to and such, so the Australian outback might not have so much access to a drop point. This still causes the problem where if the aussies are willing to go through such extremes to get fuel, why haven't people capitalized on that and just delivered fuel to them? Money is power and all that jazz.
2: We have a system of synthesizing fuel in some way or another. Maybe have it require algae, plankton, or some other ocean dwelling creature to make. So easy access is restricted to the coast. Plus, it could be said that its synthesized from any bio-form but that's just the best way to get it on-mass. Otherwise just say f*ck it and throw some deer into the tank. So you CAN have small outposts of places that can get enough bio material to make some fuel, and still have the larger places on the coasts that make the majority of it. Hell, that would even make some cities alone if business was good enough.
Opinions? They both have good reason, and logically there is no reason for both to exist in some way or another. And how much were you planning for Stormschnellen and WFFA? I am curious to see how far you are planning on building them up, as I am enjoying it a lot so far ^^
