Location: an underground city and ore mining field spanning across Mongolia and Inner Mongolia, 300 miles in diameter inside a gigantic underground fissure formed by a massive earthquake. The fissure is 300 meters below sea level and extends from one edge of the Gobi desert to the other in a vague diamond shape.
Appearance:
Name: Mining city-district of Geodae, [independant "miners town"]. (Pronounced: geo-dae)
History:
Many, many years ago in the Aether war, the regions of China were bombarded with bombing runs that eventually triggered a catastrophic earthquake that changed the landscape of the Gobi desert itself into a gigantic salt-flat environment. Underneath however, a gigantic underground fissure had opened up between two layers of the Earth's crust due to a massive pocket of air being trapped inside the layers, which had also exposed an enormous amount of raw minerals and ore.
After years of the fissure's structure being reinforced with pillars of cooled magma and crystal formations, the fissure was uncovered by a number of independent and low-class miners who laid claim to the area and used their numbers and engineering skills to begin building the initial Miners town that would soon become known as "Geodae". The town would soon spread in rumors and quickly became a refuge for those looking for a job after being ousted from everywhere else, making it quite a popular location for Shifter Mutates and thus offering many more hands to contribute to the growth of the Miners town into a legitimate city in one corner of the vast fissure. The more workers that came in, the more talents and products they had to offer and its growth exploded as a result
The city soon claimed itself as an independent working organization known as "The mining District of Geodea." Officially making it an independent resource provider for other cities, their main export being raw and refined materials used in the construction of Aether Batteries, specialized tools, Mech computer systems, and crystals both practical and decorative. They also achieved the construction of plumbing, thanks to the water in the city coming from the natural filtration of the surrounding aquifer sediment. they also recieve light through skylight holes above the city, and at night they rely on Aether powered lights.
To this day, the miners have only explored and mapped half of the fissure, but are slowly and surely making headway past. The other half remains unlit, and thus it is simply known as "The Dark" as with the environment being underground, visibility is absolute zero without a source of light nearby.
Culture:
The city is filled and ever-expanding with citizens ranging from lower-middle class to low-class. The city itself however, is something everyone is obligated take pride in, as every one of its citizens is responsible in partaking in its construction and beautification to maintain present-ability to potential business partners. They call it their greatest score ever. Higher class visitors are not shunned, but citizens hide at the sight of them, most of them being the past victims of abusive bosses. However, they will eventually warm up to the visitor if they prove themselves reasonably nice, otherwise, anyone that does not earn their trust spread in infamy VERY quickly among the city.
Furthermore:
Jump packs, jet packs, and High maneuverability suits are a common sight in Geodae, as they are used to properly navigate the city and during work.
Workers and residents and strictly prohibited from entering the unexplored half of the fissure.
Night time is announced by a quitting bell, and is also when they announce the results of their work, and if any were lost on the job.
Homeland defense officers are very prideful of their city and will defend it to the death.
Nobody really cares about a persons loyalty or faith in Geodae, they all know they are in the same boat.
Buildings:
The buildings of Geodae are a sight to behold, known as "Risers", they are like Skyscrapers that have bases at the top and bottom of the fissure. Their structure is segmented in a shape vaguely similar to a naturally formed cave pillar. Smaller ones, however have only one base on the fissure floor in the shape of a stalagmite. This design allows the building to move a great deal from the odd possibility of an earthquake, which will probably never happen unless another Aether bomb was dropped on the area. The buildings are built close to each other to allow for easy navigation of them, in addition, This city is nearly impossible to navigate fully without the common jet and jump packs that citizens wear, but there are many venues that issue them to workers, and sell them to visitors for a surprisingly cheap price.
Most of these buildings consist of identical Studio apartment-like living spaces to house the residents in a cost-efficient manner, but they are free to customize their living spaces, or go so far as to build their own. The largest building in the center of the city is home to the
Vigils and memorials are also a common sight among courtyards, and on residents doors. Their work is dangerous, and those vigils remind them of that fact constantly.
Government:
The Government system of Geodae is three-fold between three "Managers",. Their roles and titles are passed down through generations of their family or to whomever else they choose to bestow the rank to.
the first manager is in charge of operating and maintaining the city and its residents. Responsible for dealings entailing the happiness and safety of the citizens, Water utilities, power utilities, announcing the final counts at the end of the working day, and watching over the constant flow of credits and money throughout the city.
The second manager is the one who oversees the citizens's work and ensures that they are supplied with proper equipment. This manager is the one who is reported to in dealings outside of the city, be it workers safety, voiced concerns, routine checks, and exploration of the fissure.
The third manager is the most important, she is the one who manages all business dealing with other cities and foreign regions who have need or desire of Geodae's exports. She is also the commander of the Homeland defense force, and dispenses punishment upon those that but lacks the protocols for a warfare scenario.
The city's is enforced by old combat/enforcement drones from the Aether war era that were already pre-programmed to uphold the law.
Population:
Vast Majority is lower middle to Low class. Uncaring of what others believe in, most of them work to feed their families or are married to their jobs
The rare appearances of anyone of high-class status usually earns them a wide berth in the city, as most of the citizens were abused in the past by those they worked for, or other relevant reason to make them fear this class, at least until they prove themselves trustworthy.
Technology:
Mainly consisting of outdated weaponry, mining tools, and industrial-grade mechs and equipment.
High-frequency bladed tools and weapons. A high-frequency blade is reinforced by a powerful alternating current and resonating at extremely high vibration frequencies. This oscillation weakens the molecular bonds of anything it cuts, thereby increasing its cutting ability. a technology that was scavenged from old and abandoned military technology from the Aether war era. Unlike hard-light weapons; which replaced high frequency blades once it was discovered that Aether particles could be harnessed into power, they require much less power from their aether batteries to operate, enough that they can be used continuously until they over-heat from extensive use.
Variable Geometry Combat Mech (VGCM) AKA "ABIGOR". the main combat mechs of Geodae, they are fast, scary, and take great amounts of training and skill to pilot. These lightweight and spindly mech's are capable of quickly transforming into an atmospheric flight mode to travel long distances quickly, and they maintain their ability to fly in both forms. Being very lightly armored and with the silhouette of a Reed-man, these mechs are capable of navigating the tight spaces of Geodae, more-so in their normal mode which trades out their speed for maneuverability. These mechs are armed with kinetic launchers (Railguns) on their right arm, unguided missile pods, CHAFF dispensers, and a 20 mm Vulcan cannon in their heads. Veteran pilots can also have different weaponry to fit their piloting style
There is a price to pay for the lightweight frame and maneuverability of the mech, however. Its armor is forged of ceramic and titanium composites, which is effective against machine gun fire, but not against heavy weapons such as missiles and cannon rounds. The high maneuverability also puts the pilot under intense strain when performing high-G maneuvers. Most of all, the number of these mechs that Geodae has available is not imposingly large, they rely on skilled pilots and superior reaction speed to make up for their small numbers.
Mining Mech. The "BASALISK". A HUGE mech type with a design based off that of a Centipede. Geodae has three of these industrual grade mechs in service, they can tunnel through solid rock, and double as exploratory vessels. The Basalisk's long and flexible body is armored with tungsten-carbide armor plates and mobilized by an array of 32 legs that propel the body at a full 25 MPH across even jagged terrain, it is even capable of crawling up 90 degree inclines to dig on cliff faces. Its head is heavily armored and is eqipped with a large drill head that emerges from within a compartment, and is aided by two digging claws on either side of the head.
Biases: All the common laws of any currently standing government apply just the same in Geodae, including penalties. Otherwise, people are too busy to give a damn what others think about them
Military:
Citizens are not strangers to combat, utilizing weapons that they crafted themselves, ranging in all kinds of different weapons and skill-sets.
The Enforcement drones are the second line of ground force defense, and a very good one as there are a LOT of these drones that had been found from the Aether war abandoned military tech. Though they are not all that smart, they are very fierce fighters that can take more than a hit, and now how to use all manner of weapon types.
The Homeland defense corp is the first line of defense, consisting of the Abigor mech pilots that are adorned with the crest of a lance visibly on them. The more decorated the pilot, the more decorated and customized their Mech is. Their frightening appearance is usually enough to ward off trouble-makers though.
Most other benefactors of Geodae are quite fond of their existance, so the prospect of being in business with higher powers is also quite enough to discourage the more bold of trouble makers.
