Still a work in progress, there is lot's more I would like to add after looking at different ideas others have had.
Aidehryn, or Wolf 1061c, is the second planet from the star Wolf 1061, roughly 13.8 light years from earth in the constellation Ophiuchus. The planet is tidally locked with its class M dwarf star, however it possesses large oceans that help regulate the temperature and widen the terminator line where the largest portion of the locals exist and thrive.
The planet itself is called Aidehryn, by the locals, the main hub of trade is located in the city, Masinach, this is where a large portion of 'aliens' are dealt with.
The people of this planet advanced to a medieval era before the first humans discovered them, the locals are known amongst other advanced alien races for their astounding AI's often created through very questionable means. In places mostly untouched by extraterrestrial beings the locals have developed their own economy and social ladder, very similar to the nobility of the medieval era like we had on Earth.
The sentient locals consist of greater gryphons and lesser gryphons, or gryphs. The greater gryphon make up most of the aristocracy and many of the less shady merchants. The lesser gryphons make up much of the working class, servants for the aristocracy as well as some of the more shifty merchants. The aristocracy value the outer layers of meat, the cuts furthest from the bone, as highly favored, leaving the cuts closest to the bone to their servants. The lesser gryphons also have the tradition of blessing their meal, this process is claimed to make the food more nutritious and less harmful to consume.
Along the terminator line of the planet most of the architecture is made from carved out trees or a weaving together of basketry, the trade hub has a much more diverse architecture, however many gryphons retain their architectural designs whenever they own or construct a building.
Ruins of a long lost civilization can be found peppered over the planets surface, however, the closer these ruins ar to the sun the less preserved they become, resulting in a large portion of the remaining ruins to be found on the side furthest from the sun. Many of the keeps and holds could be classified as these archaic ruins, however they are highly guarded and poking around inside them is considered a great offense to the hospitality of the Lord, lady, king or queen possessing the construct.
Other information that may not be needed but is always nice.
There are quite a great many factions of the aristocracy, lords answering to kings and kings answering to priests, these are always of the greater gryphon lineage, viewing themselves of higher station than the lowly gryph. There are several kings on the planet, each with a varying number of lords beneath them.
The trade center is much more diverse and modern, influenced by the ideals religions and goals of other civilizations they are much less prejudiced against others as well as each other. However prejudice still exists and can get rather aggressive if bounds are overstepped.
Much like the days of slavery the majority in numbers in actually the lesser gryphons, however they are treated much like a minority, everywhere on the planet. The Greater gryphons often talk down about their wares and view anything created or sold by a gryph to be of lesser worth than it truly is. Away from the main hub of interstellar trade the gryph's are treated only very slightly better than cattle, seen as exceptional tools rather than people or even servants. There are pockets of societies influenced by a lord or lady who favor the views of the trade hub and strive to increase the stations of Gryphs in their lands to help them grow to be more productive, taking initiative and whatnot. Although this practice is very rare and hard to come by.
The gryphons are, currently, in their medieval era, however they do have what many alien species have labelled as 'magic.' The remnants of the ancestral progenitors of the gryphons left behind their keeps, expanded-spectrum hard-light projections and mysterious arcs. The tools used to project hard-light are powered similarly to Aether, however the miniaturization has made the battery life much shorter requiring the daily use of many tools to be recharged in a religious ritual at keeps and holds, or at the arcs during war or in times of great crisis. The greater gryphons have used the broadband hard-light projections to create rather showy forms of what they deem as magic, using the projections to form weapons, shields, tools, 'bless' the soil, even encourage the natural healing rate of the body. Every keep possesses a single AI, many have deleted valued knowledge to make room for additional information and to adapt themselves to the times, these are the most valued trade commodity of the gryphons. A race looking for such an intelligence will hand a small chip, or'plate,' to be used in the transferal ritual conducted in the keep or hold to recreate the protector of the keep onto the plate. They do have access to many advanced technologies, all traded with other races in exchange for their AI's, the majority of advanced technology is in the form of transportation, anything extravagant or showy is favored by the greater gryphons, anything practical is favored by the Gryphs. Any weapon that may use photons or radiation is also largely ineffective when used on the keeps or holds. Being created by a race who spent all of their resources studying and manipulating the electromagnetic spectrum these keeps and holds have defenses to guard against nearly every such attack. They do make use of art in the aristocracy and other recording equipment, since producing the information stored in an AI construct is very often a lethal procedure, requiring a link to connect the long decayed conduits, often Gryphs are used for this sacrifice, viewed to be joining their god Crayw in protecting the planet from Tchenchuru.
While the locals of the planet my scoff at any weapon of radical origins they do take offense when force is attempted and will often return said force to defend their lands, even against each other if need be. Any Extraterrestrial who strays outside of the central trading hub and into the kingdoms of any gryphonic society will be viewed as highly suspicious and normally avoided or heavily guarded against. Many of the locals who have not experienced the central trading hub will view aliens in this manner, with varying levels of interest. Also, investigating the ancient ruins and temples of their ancestors is viewed as an offense against Crayw himself and is dealt with promptly and ruthlessly.
The popular belief of Aidehryn is that their sun, Wolf 1061 or Tchenchuru, as it is named in legend, fought with his brother Crayw. Their battle waged for ages, longer than any mortal could know, Crayw drew power from the very people he had created while Tchenchuru drew on the nothingness that exists in the hearts of all. In one last desperate effort Tchenchuru launched an assault on the people of Crayw. The serpent god Crayw spun to protect his people but arrived too late, they had nearly been destroyed, the planet he had created for them had died. The god himself, in hopes of keeping his people alive, wrapped his body around the planet, separating the conflicting forces Tchenchuru had created by killing the planet of the gryphons, and stopped their progression, in the process both gods had crippled themselves to the point of an eternal slumber, no longer able to wage war on behalf of the mortals.
The gryphons pray to Crayw for blessings upon their kindred and others highly favored while praying to Tchenchuru to curse those that have wronged them. There are also factions here who believe they may be able to resurrect one god or another, in hopes of receiving some great reward or finding some great honor. This has been attempted a number of ways, praying, meditating, often destroying the 'captured souls' of the AI's, and a wide assortment of complex rituals.
The gryphons are all quite dangerous when they want to be, this 'magic' they possess can be quite destructive and deadly, for more reasons than just one. They may still use very rudimentary weapons and war machines, often times dismissing advanced weapons as a child's play thing. The gryphons are normally quite peaceful, despite their destructive capabilities, aiming to either impress the others of their kind with the interesting tools and playthings they can possess of other races or aim to please the gods of other worlds in hopes of one day reviving their favored god. Greater gryphons rarely have any interest in the things they are sold beyond that of how much they may be able to get a return on it. Lesser gryphons prefer instead to deal in favors, often times willing to offer their services in exchange for a chance to meet the deities of another world and petitioning their cause to the great power of the being 'worshiped' on the foreign world.
