General Details:
Location:
New York, NY
Information:
Located in the United States north east region, The Empire Corridor (Commonly referred to as simply The Corridor) grew from from the urban landscape connecting Boston, Massachusetts to Washington, D.C. Prior to the The Great Aether War, mass urbanization created a continuous cityscape of skyscrapers stretching The Corridor’s length. The Great Credit Crisis of the previous decades left the American Dollar weak allowing for a descendant of historical cryptocurrencies know as Coin to take over in day to day transactions. At the end of the war Washington was leveled, the aftermath left a vacuum, with DC gone along with most of the government leaders the US federal government collapsed. In the weeks following the region was held together by various private security firms owned by large corporations whose headquarters were located in the region. Years of uncertainty and lack of faith in government leading up to the war ensured that the numbers were enough to weather the storm of anarchy leading to the establishment of a regional government founded on corporate interests. Everyone though looking up from the lower levels of society knew though that the new face of government was not the true rulers for the region, it was the large corporations growing into what is now known as the current mega corporations. The capital of the Corridor is officially known as Empire City, a renamed New York City following the events of the war.
Population:
The population in the region consists a proportional amount of both baseline humans and anthros. In certain areas lines can sometimes become blurry between the groups as biotech firms developed technology for cosmetic alteration. One thing is seen though when looking at the population is that corporate values have caused anthros to be less valued, the group tending to exist in more extreme poverty compared to the already existing poverty prevalent throughout the Corridor.
Buildings:
The skyscrapers running the length of the Corridor are have been completely connected by a web of sky bridges. Standing at ground level you may be able to see a sliver of sun if it is high in the sky and you were standing at the right angle to see through the layers of overpasses and walkways built between the buildings. The urban landscape during the night have the streets lit with bright neon colors from the displays mirroring the images from the day, the buildings always washed with corporate advertisements. Most large buildings are built with sharp aggressive angles to almost appear like a knife cutting the sky.
Landmarks:
To combat the rising sea tides a large sea wall has been constructed around Empire City running from Long Beach to Long Branch and blocking off the East River turning the Upper and Lower bay into a freshwater lake. The pollution and runoff from the city have caused the bay to be only technically classified as freshwater though, the water in the Bay is known to be far from what one would consider fresh. To manage the water levels the Hudson river has been diverted to Eastchester Bay.
Corporate Entities:
AAPC:
After the war one of the entities to emerge was the American Applied Power Corp, the original headquarters for the company was located outside the now ruins of DC. This location lead to extreme growth following the adoptions of Aether based technologies as they became the primary producer of Aether filters and batteries in the region following the initial technological discovery. AAPC as the company is commonly known is still the largest producer in the region and owns many sub companies to have it’s influence in various technological fields.
The Heishi Group:
Before the Great Aether War the company Heishi Arms was an international defense contractor known for the manufacturing of weapons for various governments. The original company grew out of Japan as the primary weapons manufacturer for the JSDF. Eventually the company expanded to supply weapons to the other members of the NASC, the headquarters for the American division was located in the greater NYC area. In the years leading up to the war they were one of the major companies that grew large security forces that after the end of the war would assist in keeping stability in the region. After the end of the war the American division lost contact with the previously established parent company. In the wake following the end of the war the board of directors for the company restructured Heishi Arms into the Heishi Group with Heishi Arms becoming a subsidiary. The large security force has since become Heishi Security and is now one of the main sources of law enforcement in the region.
