(Image sources: www.greenme.com.br and nl.dreamstime.com ) The past was quite turbulent for Brazil, having endured a societal collapse about half a century ago as the poor finally had enough and decided to devastate the then-current regime in a tidal wave of people and improvised/smuggled weaponry. Unfortunately for the rioters however, a human swarm is something quite visible and the corrupt politicians fled to their illegal off-shore account bought islands long before the rebellion reached them. What remained was anarchy, the countries' populace too vast and too unpredictable to rebuild a functioning society at large. While some moved out of the cities to start anew in the wildlands, crime groups began to declare themselves despots in the cities of the country abandoned by its leaders, with vigilantee groups springing up shortly thereafter to fight back against the new opressor. Fifty years later, and the chaotic monstrosity now known as Favella City only grew and grew despite its squalor, maintaining a bizarre existence where the most coveted object of its impoverished citizenry is an up to date map that could lead them into the wilds, where the air and water are said to be pristine.

FAVELLA CITY TECH
Technology in the "Severed City" is best described as schizophrenic and ramshackle, consisting largely of improvised weaponry and armor, with pristine or newly-manufactured gear highly prized amongst its citizenry, but hoarded by the syndicates.
Pipe guns, knives and lead pipes with various attachments are quite a common sight among destitute individuals trying to simply survive, where as the syndicates and the gangs have access to bio-locked assault rifles, drones and covert cybernetics.
Personal transport is usually done on foot and often via free-runnning, the streets otherwise too cramped for all but aerial forms of travel, which some creative survivors take advantage of with homebuilt gyrocopters.
Cyberware is usually crude and primitive among the destitute, certain procedures leaving individuals looking more like a decrepit machine than a person (see above), an appearence that some gangers actually embrace. Pristine, covert cyberware is highly valued and imported by the syndicates, and occasionally stolen by the gangs that actually have the means to fight back.

FAVELLA CITY SOCIETY
At the top of the social ladder are the syndicates, street thugs that had the will and know how to loot "the good shit" during the rebellion, turning bands of hood rats into mafia families. They posses access to outsider technology, and the outside in general, ruling their favella neighboorhoods with an iron fist and wanton abuse of power.
At the middle are the gangs, a highly varied batch ranging from monsters dealing in "Flesh" to "families" set on restoring the law and order of the past in their little nook. Sometimes through luck, skill or both they manage to get their hands on syndicate technology, and that is where the real challenge (or fun) usually begins.
And at the bottom are the destitutes, homeless, usually children without a gang or syndicate to cover for them. Some manage to "get in" and live a better life, while others are destined for a short, painful life.
Day to day survival is highly varied from location to location. Some raise species that were once house pets like cats and dogs for food, others raid other neighboorhoods for supplies and some dive into the labyrynthine sewage system to hunt mutants for food.
This has also cultivated a sizeable weapon culture, with everyone, including small children, being given melee weapons and firearms.

Ooooohhh, this is a really cool setting. This one makes a lot of sense given the current state of that city too.
Don't forget to add details about the tropical wildlife man, Brazil has a lot of different kinds of fauna that sort of define that country, so don't miss out on that opportunity.
Also for the sake of convenience, I suggest keeping all the information in the original post rather than just adding it in different posts. It looks better that way and is more consistent. Still, good idea making more posts to add pictures. And with pictures, I suggest using your own drawings and stuff, good to provide a shot of what the place looks like, but draw the picture yourself, edit it in the way you would like us to see it, and make it your own unique work. Some of the pictures used look out of place, and sort of kill that concept I think you're trying to go for.
Anyway, this is a cool setting for the universe, been waiting for something from that part of the world. I like the idea a lot, but make out of your stuff, the end result will be much more satisfying to you and the readers that way. Anyway, great concept.

Thanks, I felt the other writers' descriptions were too sanitary for cyberpunk so I decided to go a bit wild. I avoided describing the wildlife because the city is so walled off and the wilderness in it so bulldozed that you cannot find many animals outside of the sewers or peoples' private farms. The more exotic stuff might still live outside Rio however. As for my own drawings, I am too inept at artwork to make them myself, and too poor to get comissions en masse, so I have to rely on Google, Pinterest and other such places.
