Long ago, skateboarding was a popular activity and a way to get around. As time went on, the mountain board was developed, an off-road coaster just like a skateboard that could handle rural terrain and rougher surfaces. Mountain boarding was a popular extreme sport for some time, until the world changed.
Many years later, the mountain board inspired innovation for another method of transportation, the road board. A road board is much like an upgraded mountain board, having suspension, special tires, a durable body, and brakes. What is new in the road board however is that it is powered, able to move without a slope or kicking off the ground. They have gained popularity in current times with their capabilities and availability, being used for personal transportation and even competitions like old times. Road boards are one of the cheapest available methods of transportation, and usually don't require anything like permits to own one. However, some musts for using a road board properly include a good sense of balance and fast reaction time, for screwing up while riding one can lead to serious injuries.
Along with being popular among the youth, road boards are also popular with various rough characters, such as gangs and even some known fugitives. People have banded together forming "Road Board Clubs", but some of them are malicious and feared, associating road boards with the rougher crowd. Criminals have also been known to use road boards to escape authorities, being able to slip away from on-foot chases and go where most vehicles can't. Typically, authorities look down upon road boarding, and may harass people over it.
Road boards are usually powered by a motor, but higher end ones may run on Aether batteries or something else. Boards that run on fuel usually have either a one liter tank for a mixture of gas and oil, or a small propane tank; these two are the most common, and typically can run for 30-50 miles on a full tank, and have top speeds between 25-60 miles per hour. Boards powered by Aether don't need to worry about running out of power, although filters may need to be replaced occasionally after much use, these boards can go as fast as 50-95 miles per hour, so long as the rider can handle it. Boards can be as light as 20 pounds, and as heavy as 100 pounds. They may also be customized with various modifications, cosmetic changes, and performance enhancements. Road boards are usually seen with 2-4 wheels, but some unique variants can have as many as 14 wheels. Decks are typically 36-60 inches in length, with longer decks granting higher stability.

Going to expand on this and make drawings.
